HISTORY OF WEBB WELL DRILLING

MAP OF AREA SERVICED

In January of 1966 Robert Webb Sr. was working for Consumers Power Company in Jackson, Michigan and living in Charlotte, Michigan.  Most every week end he and his wife Arlene would come to his families homestead in Hale.  One week end in early Spring of 1966 they came to Hale only to find that they didn't have any water.  They hired a local well driller to fix it and returned to their home in Charlotte.  They returned the following week-end only to find they still didn't have any water and that their pump was torn into many pieces and all over their basement floor.  They were informed by the well driller that it couldn't be fixed.  Bob spent the next four week-ends working on it and with his father's (a former well driller) advice, he had the pump back together and pumping water again.

On the way home to Charlotte that Sunday afternoon, he told Arlene," You know Hale sure needs a good well driller", and "I know I could do it". Arlene told him," I don't care what you do as long as you earn a living". Since, they were both born and raised in Hale they decided that it might not be such a bad idea after all, so Bob quit his good secure job at Consumers Power Company and the moved to Hale to start a well drilling business with a promise to himself never to leave a customer without water the way he had been left.

He drilled his first well on April 21, 1966 and in that first year he drilled nearly a 100 wells with a "spudding" (hollow rod) rig. By 1980, he was drilling 185 wells a year with an augur rig. Every well he drilled then and now carries a 5 year warranty.  Today the company Operates Two rotary drilling rigs each with a three man crew, Four, two man well repair crews, a three man new well hook up crew, and a three man specialty crew that works on large well repairs for schools, business, and industry. They also sell, service and install water conditioning equipment for the smallest to the largest job.  The company operates in all of The Northeastern Michigan Area.

Today, the business is operated by Robert Webb II who is a Registered Michigan well Contractor and a Certified Master Well Driller There are only about 84 Master well drillers in the world).   Robert Webb II is also a member of the Michigan Ground Water Association and has served on its board of directors. He is a member of the National Ground Water Association and currently serves on their Educational Committee and Rural Water Committee. He is currently a member of the Michigan State DEQ Advisory Committee, appointed by Governor Engler in 1999.  Now, you know why Webb Well Drilling can proudly say,"Quality Water Starts Here".
